Janet Eileen Rickey, 86, of Rubyville, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018, at SOMC Hospice. Born October 25, 1931, in Scioto County, a daughter of the late Clarence Vernon and Dorothy Helen Hancock Benner, she attended Portsmouth High School and was a homemaker. She attended Rubyville Community Church and Christ Brethren Church, where she served for many years as treasurer and enjoyed singing and working with the ladies’ auxiliary. In her earlier years, she was also a choir director, 4-H advisor, and an at-home kindergarten teacher. Later in life she enjoyed babysitting her great grandbabies, baking apple dumplings and feeding the whole family. In fact, she was the glue that held the family together. She is survived by one daughter, Denise Patterson of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren: Beau Rickey, Charles (Brooke) Rickey, Rawland (Missi) Rickey, Tiffany Pierson, Tim (Janeen) Mynes, Tom Mynes, Leslie (Tim) Buckle and Courtney (Darren) LeBrun; 22 great grandchildren; one sister, Elaine (Jack) McGlone with daughters, Debbie Williams, Diane Seidel and Donna VanDeusen; daughter-in-law, Dawna Rickey; sister-in-law, Rowena Souder and children, Bill Souder and Renee Hale; great niece, Jordan Hale; great nephew, Luke Hale, and two special friends, Kendall and Irene Mounts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and sweetheart of 37 years, Rawland Rickey, whom she married December 14, 1946; daughter, Diana Louise Mynes; son, Rawland Dwight Rickey, and son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Patterson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Rubyville Community Church with Pastor Calvin Ray Evans and Brian Baer officiating. Burial will be at Long Run Cemetery in Rubyville. Friends may call at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
